Rega R1

The R1 loudspeaker offers exceptional sound quality and value for money when incorporated in either a budget system or a more expensive hi-fi system. It’s accurate low frequency and very even, and extended high quality treble generate a well balanced enjoyable performance and it is precisely these attributes which set the R1 apart from the competition, producing an extremely versatile, dynamic and musical sound.

Driver units
All drivers are produced in house to Rega’s exact specifications.

The R1 loudspeaker uses our classic RR125 midrange drive unit. This offers excellent damping of cone resonance's, resulting in a smooth midrange response, giving the bass seamless integration and exceptional timing without compromising any of the midrange and treble performance which Rega is renowned for.

Sound and set-up
The drive units in the R1 have been designed with great care. The crossover needs no additional filter networks to compensate for drive unit problems. Unlike most manufacturers who boast about the complexity of their crossover’s, Rega are proud of of the simplicity of theirs. This simplicity means that bi-amping will offer no advantage.

The R1 has an unusually even bass response for a small loudspeaker. This allows them to be mounted directly onto the wall, or alternatively to be placed on shelves or stands, allowing the user greater variation in positioning than normal.

Cabinet Design
With emphasis on sound quality and dynamics the styling compliments rather than stands out. However, the design of the R1 is particularly radical and quite a departure from accepted norms. It’s sleek lines are subtle, it’s dimensions inoffensive and slim. The R1 utilises these styling que’s from the flagship speaker the R9 bringing a fresh, lively and modern style throughout the range.

Rega has worked hard on achieving a dynamic, stylish and most of all enjoyable loudspeaker. We think you will agree when you audition the R1 that it is one of the finest loudspeaker systems on the market.

Rega R3

The R3 is an exceptional loudspeaker for it’s size and cost. Using a dynamic three driver set up it offers extraordinary accurate low frequency and very even, and extended high quality treble performance. It is precisely these attributes which set the R3 apart from the competition, producing an extremely versatile, dynamic and musical sound.

The R3 loudspeaker uses Rega's classic RR125 midrange drive unit. This offers excellent damping of cone resonances, resulting in a smooth midrange response. The R3 also benefits from a new single side firing 5" driver, which utilises an 8 layer voice coil in aluminium rather than copper. This allows us to eradicate any crossover filters for this driver giving the bass seamless integration with the mid range unit, and exceptional timing without compromising any of the midrange and treble performance which Rega is renowned for.

The R3 loudspeaker also uses a front firing port, allowing them to be placed against a wall, if required. The R3 is suitable for all room environments due to it's ease of positioning.

Rega R5

The R5 is an exceptional loudspeaker. Using a dynamic three driver set up it offers extraordinary accurate low frequency and very even, and extended high quality treble performance. It is precisely these attributes which set the R5 apart from the competition, producing an extremely versatile,
dynamic and musical sound.

Drive units
All drivers are produced in house to Rega’s exact specifications.

The R5 loudspeaker uses Rega's classic RR125 midrange drive unit. This offers excellent damping of cone resonances, resulting in a smooth midrange response. The R5 also benefits from a new single side firing 7" driver, which utilises an 6 layer voice coil in aluminium rather than copper. This allows us to eradicate any crossover filters for this driver giving the bass seamless integration with the mid range unit and exceptional timing without compromising any of the midrange and treble performance which Rega is renowned for.

The R5 loudspeaker also use a front firing port, allowing them to be placed against a wall, if required. The R5 is suitable for all room environments due to it's ease of positioning.

The drive units in the R5 have been designed with great care. The crossover needs no additional filter networks to compensate for drive unit problems. Unlike most manufacturers who boast about the complexity of their crossover’s, Rega are proud of the simplicity of theirs. This simplicity means that bi-wiring will offer no advantage. Bi-amping will improve the performance of both mid/bass driver and tweeter units. For optimum results we strongly recommend using two Rega Exon 3 power amplifiers.

Rega R7

The R7 is an exceptional loudspeaker using a dynamic three driver set up allowing for bi-amplification. Most loudspeakers with an accurate low frequency output suffer problems in many rooms but the R7’s unique, advanced low frequency design will produce accurate, high quality low frequencies consistently in most rooms. The R7 also utilises an unusual high frequency arrangement to give a very even, extended, high quality treble performance. It is precisely these attributes which set the R7 apart form the competition, producing an extremely versatile, dynamic and musical sound.

Drive units
The R7 uses a new three-way driver system developed from our flagship loudspeaker the R9. All drivers are produced in house to Rega’s exact specifications. This allows greater control over characteristics of each unit and ultimately this contributes a great deal to the outstanding sound quality.

One of the more important new features of the R7 is the single side firing 7" bass driver, which utilises a 6 layer voice coil in aluminium rather than copper. This allows us to eradicate any crossover filters for this driver giving the bass seamless integration with the mid range unit and exceptional timing.

Sound and set-up
The drive units in the R7 have been designed with great care. The crossover needs no additional filter networks to compensate for drive unit problems. Unlike most manufacturers who boast about the complexity of their crossover’s, Rega are proud of of the simplicity of theirs. This simplicity means that bi-wiring will offer no advantage, and will often give worse results at an additional cost. Bi-amping will improve the performance of both mid/bass driver and tweeter units giving greater separation and control. For optimum results we strongly recommend using two Rega Exon 3 power amplifiers.

It’s sleek lines are subtle, it’s dimensions inoffensive and slim - it will stand modesty rather than make a bold statement upon a modern spatial environment. The R7 directly utilises these styling que’s from the flagship speaker the R9 bringing a fresh, lively and modern style throughout the range.

As with other Rega loudspeakers we have used a quarter wave transmission line for the bass there is also a ported box chamber for the bass/mid driver. The quarter wave line also uses Rega’s unique “Tube” technology first seen on the Ela and has now been developed and upgraded to remove nearly all airflow restrictions within the transmission line. As a part of this upgrade we have developed a new wool support system using nylon rods, which keep the wool separated evenly throughout the airspace.

Rega has worked hard on achieving a dynamic, stylish and most of all enjoyable loudspeaker. We think you will agree when you audition the R7 that it is one of the finest loudspeaker systems on the market.

Rega R9

The R9 loudspeaker is Regas most advanced speaker to date. Offering a new dynamic four speaker set-up including bi-amping and bass attenuation. These features offer a very versatile sound and great dynamics.

Most speakers with a healthy and accurate low frequency output suffer problems in many rooms. Because of the R9's unique low frequency design techniques and the bass attenuation system, it will produce high quality low frequency in most rooms.

All the drivers in the R9 have been fully or partially designed by Rega. This has given Rega greater control over the characteristics of each speaker, making use of higher registers, removing Ferrofluid, modifying the doping process and perhaps the biggest change is to their coil characteristics.

The new bass driver although looking like a Naos driver, is completely different. It makes use of a new 8-layer voice coil in aluminium instead of copper- the upshot of this, is that it does not require a filter in the crossover and it weighs about the same as a standard two-layer copper coil. The driver has only been designed to work at frequencies below 800Hz; it's 8-layer voice coil means that it will naturally start to "Roll off" at around 400Hz.

One of the more unusual characteristics of the Rega R9 loudspeaker is the bass attenuation. Placing the speaker closer to a wall will increase the bass significantly and likewise, moving them away from a wall will reduce the bass. The attenuation link therefore is to increase or decrease the amount of bass that you want, effectively helping you 'tune' them into your room. It is a very subtle difference, but is extremely effective and if used correctly after experimentation, can really enhance your listening pleasure.

Bi-amping would not be possible, without the newly designed crossover. Because of the number of drivers in use, the crossover is quite complex. Still, as with most, if not all, Rega products we have tried to retain our philosophy that 'simplicity' is usually best! And by utilising the bi-amp system, it will allow you to use separate power amplifiers to drive the tweeters and the bass/mid range, providing greater separation and control.

Cabinet Design
By far, the R9 is the biggest cabinet Rega has embarked on making; its proportions are also the most radical. The cabinet construction is a quarter wave transmission line, tuned to about 45-50Hz, with a ported box chamber on top for the bass/mid driver. The quarter wave line also contains Rega's unique Tube technology. First used on the Ela loudspeaker it has now been developed and upgraded to new levels, and now helps remove nearly all airflow restrictions through the line.

Within the line, Rega has developed a new wool support system using nylon rods.

Another important design feature, is the crossover being on the outside of the cabinet. With no internal components other than wires, (which are run down the sides of the cabinet, using our "Quattro" flat cable) there is very little to restrict the flow of air through the cabinet, and less likelihood of vibration affecting the crossover.
